Chapter Three

The next morning Janelle had a new spring in her step as she hopped out of bed and waltzed into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. Her mind was aflutter with thoughts of the handsome man she’d made plans with as she quickly finished a few of her usual weekend household chores before getting ready to head into the city to meet Jon. She wasn't sure what this lunch date held for them since they still barely knew each other and, although they'd acknowledged a mutual attraction, Janelle still wasn't sure if there was anything solid there for her. Since arriving in New York, she hadn't had much of a chance to really think about dating. Her social activities outside of work had been limited to mundane interactions with people while shopping. She'd visited a few of the bars in her new neighborhood, but the atmosphere seemed hostile to people who weren't from the immediate area. Without a local to help her network, she was invisible to everyone it seemed.

Yes, even if Jon didn't turn out to be boyfriend material it would still be nice to make a friend in the city. It would be a welcomed change to go out socially at all as it had been a very difficult few months for her trying to settle in.

She took her time doing her hair and make-up and carefully selected a powder blue satin blouse with a black skirt. She worried for a moment that it looked too much like office clothing but before she started wearing it to work she'd always considered it one of her nicest tops. The way it was cut made her breasts look big and her waist look tight which was important since she was a very curvy woman. The skirt was cut above the knee and showed off her long, toned legs well. For a moment she considered putting on some fishnet tights, but thought that might be a little much for their first date. The possibility of sex was there, but she didn't want to make it so obvious that he’d sense it the moment she walked into the restaurant.

The commute into Manhattan was as tedious as ever, yet Janelle was full of excitement along the way. How long had it been since she was on an actual date? She'd been in New York for five months and before that she'd gone out a few times with some guy named Trevor who wanted to date every girl he saw, coming across as desperate and pathetic. That was the last time she'd dated, and she was thankful she hadn’t sleep with him. How long had it been since she'd had sex, anyhow? It was with Michael, an old fling, and that was well over a year ago. She hadn't had sex in a full calendar year plus some and had been taking care of herself for far too long.

The train got her into Manhattan where she caught a cab to the restaurant he suggested, a place called ‘Wheat’ near the Museum of Modern Art.
